2010 CAMS Rising Star Rookies Announced

The Australian Motor Sport Foundation (AMSF) has announced that Liam Sager and Garry Jacobson have been selected as rookies in representing the CAMS Rising Star Program in 2010.

At 14 years of age, Sager is the youngest ever driver to be selected in the CAMS Rising Star Program. Sager has an impressive karting resume, winning a number of national titles including the 2008 Junior National Light Final in Melbourne and countless podiums across the country.

"I feel overwhelmed and very honoured with my selection as a rookie in the CAMS Rising Star Program," a delighted Sager said.

"To be racing in the CAMS Rising Star colours next year is a dream come true and I will be looking to achieve some really good results in the Formula Ford. With the support and guidance from the AMSF, CAMS and Minda Motorsport I am really excited and looking forward to this next step in my motor racing career."

For the 2009 Aussie Young Gun Garry Jacobson, graduating to the CAMS Rising Star Program is just the beginning for the talented Victorian driver. Jacobson, 17, was named the '2008 Driver of the Year' in the National Kart Magazine; topping the list in a very competitive year and enhancing his already glowing karting resume.

In 2008, Jacobson claimed state karting titles in Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania and the Northern Territory; while taking out the National Australian Championship in the Junior National Heavy Class. Jacobson then made the move into Aussie Racing Cars this year.

"I have learned a lot this year taking my first steps as part of the CAMS Aussie Young Gun Program. I gained some very valuable racing experience and also worked as part of a racing team for the first time," said Jacobson.

"It was such a thrilling experience racing in this exciting category at the biggest events in Australia and it has been a year I have thoroughly enjoyed.

"I am looking forward to taking my racing to the next level in the Formula Ford category and building my skills with all the support from the CAMS Rising Star Program. This is such a great pathway for my desired racing career, assisted by some of the most professional and experienced organisations in the country."

Both Jacobson and Sager will compete in the 2010 Victorian Formula Ford State Series under the CAMS Rising Star banner. Joined with national team members Matthew Brabham and Jack Le Brocq, the 2010 CAMS Rising Star Team will benefit from a strengthened program with a continued focus on fitness and psychology in ensuring peak performance.

The 2010 CAMS Rising Star drivers will work closely with Minda Motorsport, which was recently announced by the AMSF as the race services provider for 2010 – 2011.

The CAMS Rising Star Program acknowledges the continued support of the Australian Government via the Australian Sports Commission, and the support from its partners including: the Australian Sports Foundation, CAMS, Minda Motorsport, OAMPS Insurance Brokers, Mark Webber, GMP Racing Products, Azumah, Skilled Group and VDO.
